Welcome to Rowling's webpage and termly blog. Every term this will be updated and will outline the following term's work, so you can work on areas covered at home with your child.
Spring Term 2018
Happy season of Lent and welcome back to our busy spring term. It's another short one but there's a lot we'll be packing into it!
This term continues to be a real working term so the children will be working hard on their targets daily. Our topic is Exploring Eastern Europe where we are learning about the geographical features, cities and mix of cultures living in Eastern Europe. Our 'Wish' story is based around a Russian folk tale and we will link our learning to our topic where possible and applicable. We will also be visiting the Boston Tea Party for some cookery also.
The homework project work has gone home at the beginning of half term so hopefully your child can make a start on this. A copy is in our Home Learning link. There will be homework club on a Monday lunchtime with me and on a Friday after school with Mrs Potterton, which children need to sign up to. Children can use resources from school to support their learning.
In English we are reading 'Hidden Tales from Eastern Europe' and writing a 'Wish' story based on a Russian fairy-tale; a copy of which will be added to this page. We will then move onto persuasive writing for our non-fiction.
In Maths we are working on fractions: equivalent, mixed and improper and decimals and percentages. It's important children still regularly work on their tables and Times Tables Rockstars is a good way to do this. Any support around children using this, and Literacy Planet, is greatly appreciated.
Our Science is still based around Materials and their Properties then we will move onto Light. Our RE topic is Lent and focusing on preparing for Jesus.
Games and PE will take place on a Tuesday and Thursday. Children need to have kits at all times. These will be sent home for laundering at half term.
If you haven't already, please sign into our Class Dojo. A class reporter will be uploading a photo of learning taking place in class daily, so you can talk about what we've been learning with your children. Children are also posting, sometimes summarising their learning, which is fantastic to see!
I'll be in the playground every evening at 3:15 should you need to speak to me and can arrange a longer appointment if there's anything you want to discuss. Parent's Evenings will take place after half-term also where we can discuss your child's progress in more depth.
Year 5 Class Teacher
Meet the Teacher
If you missed our Meet the Teacher event at the start of the year, attached is the PowerPoint I shared with the parents who attended. Please have a look through. There will be a further Parent's Evening the week beginning October 16th, where you can book your slots online.
