Message from the Headteacher
Another busy week has flown by as we continue to ensure the children are working to the best of their ability. I have enjoyed visiting every class to see what they are doing and talking to the children about their learning. With Miss Heaton leaving us last week, we welcome Miss Goddard to Eric Carle class. We also are delighted to have Mrs Lintott join the teaching team to support leadership and management. Julia Donaldson class enjoyed a trip to the theatre to see The Gingerbread Man on Monday. Well done to those who organised the excursion – it is not easy taking a class of four and five year olds anywhere! Thank you to those parents from the Foundation Stage class who also came into school to hear all about how we run our Read Write Inc Phonics programme. For those who missed this opportunity, this will be shared again at 5.30 next Thursday as we try to support our working parents.
Year 3 have completed a second week of swimming and the progress they are making as a result of this intense programme is very pleasing. It is such an important life skill for us living in the south west, surrounded by water. Years 5 & 6 enjoyed Indoor Rowing on Monday as they got the chance to try to compete against themselves as well as in teams.
It was CENSUS day for schools yesterday so we have the opportunity to take stock of who we are as a school. For your information, there are currently 283 pupils in the school. Some amazing statistics – there are 30 languages spoken by our pupils with 39% of our children speaking another language other than English. We celebrate this diversity and the cultural mix that represents Holy Cross. Have a lovely weekend. Mr Cotter
Liturgy in School The theme for our prayer and worship next week is: Kindness Dear Jesus, we are thinking about Christian Unity this week. Please help Christians everywhere to be a sign of your love in the world. Help us to work together to make the world a better place. Amen.
