Summer 2 Learning

Daily Read, Write Inc. sessions will continue. As well as this we will be using the story telling approach to develop our reading and writing skills by learning the story 'Sally and the Limpet', by Simon James.

We will begin with a focus on time. Year 1 will learn to tell the time to the nearest 15 minutes and while Year 2 read the time to the nearest 5 minutes. Mental arithmetic sessions will continue. Please continue to support this at home. Daily recall of known numbers facts to 20 as well as doubles and halves make such a difference to your child.

Our geography based topic 'Beside the Seaside', will focus on both the human and physical features of beaches. We will learn about seaside environments, where they are located and think about seaside resorts near us in Plymouth.

In this unit on habitats, the children will learn about the features of a variety of habitats and think about which animals live there and why.

As always, if you have any questions, just let us know.

Our Outdoor Classroom
We are very lucky in Eric Carle Class to have our very own outdoor classroom attaches to our indoor classroom. We use this space to provide the children with continuous provision learning opportunities. The children can continue their learning from indoors independently in a lovely covered outdoor space. We have a garden, role play corner, building, making, writing, maths, reading and painting areas. The children access all of these areas independently. They find the resources they need and complete challenges and tasks left out by their teacher. The children love this area and enjoy showing us what they have achieved when they come back inside. See the photos below for some of the learning opportunities we have had so far.
